Storage is only an issue if you're taking _huge_ numbers of photos,
though, given things like the HD80 (et al) which stores 80gb of data,
slups data off CF cards onto itself, runs on 4xAA batteries, and will
optionally also charge NiMH batteries given a mains supply. It's
(large)-pocket sized, and takes any laptop-sized hard drive, so 80gb
isn't the max by any means.
That's what I used in the UK earlier this year; three x 512mb cards,
shoot until a card is full, start it transferring over (which takes
about 10 seconds to get going, then a minute or two to copy), onto the
second card, and one more spare in case I get behind on copying.

Agreed, though backup BLM-1s (or whatever) don't cost all that much if
you really can't find a place to charge for a while.
