Absolutely, and not just for cameras either.
In general I try to avoid buying computer equipment, or stereo equipment,
or photographic equipment from someone who sells washing machines.
In my experience the specialists are far nicer to deal with, have products
that the box stores don't, offer better service, and are usually competitive
on price.
Even for less technical products, this often works. The tiny local Science
Fiction bookstore may be better than Amazon or Chapters in its field, and
the little family-run butcher shop better than supermarkets.
