Walt, this is a common problem with this lens.
If memory serves, Leica recommends putting it in a microwave oven for
a few minutes. Set on high of course. I think they call it 'goosing
ze grease' or some such. Careful when you remove it as the metal of
the barrel tends to be a bit hot, especially if arcing occurred during
the goosing process.

Seriously, it should be very similar to your 50/1.4 with regard to
focusing effort. If it's not, it needs service.
