Jan,
     the OM4TI service manual actually claims the X-sync is good to 500V.

Since the energy in the flash sync circut is limited by the energy stored in 
the flash trigger
cap, 10's of nF in old high voltage flashes, and a rather small superimposed 
charge current
typically 10's of uA, even if you exceeded the scr voltage it would likely just 
trigger itself
(and the flash) and remain undamaged. To put in perspective, even a small scr 
is usually rated at
0.8-1A continuous and many times that peak at a low rep rate.
