I'm pretty much resigned to taking a flash this time. It is essential in
the tombs. If I take the "faster stuff", I'll need to take some ND
filters as it doesn't take much to get to 1/1000 and f16 in bright
light. If I mix different ASA films, it's one more thing for me to screw
up. Choices, choices.

I wouldn't exclude some higher speed stuff. The museum of antiquities
is pretty dimly lit. And, if you get to the valley of the kings, it's
pretty dim in any of the tombs as well.
I'd agree otherwise with your sentiments. I lugged a back-pack case
with two bodies and about seven lenses in it for most of three weeks
over there. Honestly can't say I'd do it much differently now, except
the bodies would be digital.
