I certainly agree that when necessary, it's best. Take this from a man that
got tiny metal particles embedded in the front element of a Hasselblad 40
while shooting a welder.
For the last 15 years, I have shot welders regularly, and I do use a filter,
usually some old UV, to protect things.
For impact damage, I'll take a hood any day.
