I'm with Moose, it sounds to me like an overwind, whip off the bottom cover
and go for the star wheel. It's a 2-second job, once the bottom plate is
off. Than a ten minute job looking for the "missing" screw (or is it a
bolt?) to fill up the hole for the MD post!

The only time this should happen is when you reach the end of the film part
way through a wind. The obvious solution is then to rewind the film and
start a new roll.

A properly working OM-1 simply won't allow that at any pressure on the wind
lever that I'd be willing to use.

Normally, I'd say sticky latches, but these have just been CLAed, no?
