Trying to make final decisions on stuff for OM. My current Velbon and QR
plates really no longer can do the job. (I won't even mention what happens with
the Tam 400/4) I had the major good fortune of being able to try some of the
gear, (thanks to JK)
review the RRS website and print catalog (the latter was better to get more of
a handle on options) and Kirk site. Called the RRS with C Card in hand and ran
into quite a snarky salesperson. Maybe it was Fri PM syndrome. (perhaps even it
was me?) Thought I'd better check here first given the $$ outlay.
The RRS body plate for OM looked nice and custom made. The MC-l L- bracket is
a multi-camera model and it is hard to know how well it fits/interferes. Have
seen a larger L-bracket that fits over a regular plate as well.
One list member I think posted a link on yabe. These seem much larger though
don't require tools to use.
The RRS B9 plate is OK for winder -2 and I know fits the Viv s1 converter
nicely. Not sure whether to put a MPR directly on the auto-tube or just a plate
to save weight. I know first hand the former is smooth as silk.
I suppose the same size plate would be OK for the Tam 80-200.
Was leaning towards the Kirk long rail plate LRP-1
(http://www.kirkphoto.com/supports.html#rail ) in lieu of heavier, more $$$ RRS
options for macro. The clamp can pivot 90 deg to maintain proper orientation
for a lens or body.
Any comments on any of the above much appreciated.
TIA,
Mike
