I see no one has answered you..
Mike was an early adopter of the Canyon 1Ds, the first full frame DSLR,
to use for landscape photography. He quickly found that the Canyon WA
and SWA lenses were not so good for his purposes. So he started an
odyssey through all the available classic MF WA lenses.
And he did it in over the top style. Once he found a lens that performed
rather well, he bought multiple copies of it and tested them all, then
tested the best of each against each other. Most of this was going on
more or less as it happened on a forum or forums on fredmiranda.com
where like minded and equipped folks listened and added their own info.
In the super wide category, it came down to Zeiss and Zuiko, with the
Zeiss 18 mm edging out the Zuiko in the middle of the frame, and the
Zuiko trouncing the Zeiss at the edges. At 21 mm, the Zeiss beat out the
Zuiko 21/2 and 21/3.5, but only by a hair. As the Zeisses are rarer and
MUCH more expensive than the Zuikos, this caused a run on Zuikos, with
new members showing up here and trolling for lenses and a big bump in
prices on the 'Bay. The big bump is over, but prices on the 18/3.5,
21/2, 21/3.5, 28/2 and to a lesser extent perhaps 24/2, 35/2 and 90/2
have remained higher than before.
So far, I'm not aware of new super wides appearing to challenge the
oldie but goodies.
