John, I think you will be better served by paying more attention to the
specific implementations of a sensor regardless of its base technology.
This is an extremely competitive business and probably moves much
faster than any edition of John Russ's books. Canon CMOS has been ahead
of the CCD pack for many years now. But others aren't standing still
and CCD or NMOS or something else could emerge overnight.
ps: You're a hard nose on digital. I think that digital as a capture
medium (for a given surface area) surpassed color film about three years
ago.
