Ah, but that's another trick -- the front corner of camera is sitting
on the ground, so I just have to get the angle right and slide the
subject into view. This doesn't give me as many options for angle of
composition as a real setup would, but it's a heck of a lot easier.
(and, again, flash covers up a multitude of shaky hands).

Turns out that the lens I needed takes exactly 5/8" hole, so I used a
spade bit, slowly, and with some wincing at the horrible noises it made
as it's really intended for wood.
