A rather large box arrived today from Camtech, the contents of which
reflected John's work and the generosity of a number of list members in
letting go
of a few OM 1 and 1n cameras. Yes, eBay coughed up a few and I'd never have
gotten to a dozen without the help of the OM list. Thanks to John and
everyone else who helped. This was the first half of the shipment and I can't
tell
you how nice it is to have half a dozen manual cameras that have had John's
"treatment" and are ready for some eager photographers to go out and discovery
their magic. What better tool than the OM1/1n? For any out there who have
an OM that they have been limping along with waiting to send it in for a
little of John's magic, I have two words for you: "Do it!" He supports this
list
daily and we need to reciprocate (which most of us already do.)
Ever contemplate your sandbox? You know, that place where your go and play.
I have, from time to time, encouraged folks to enlarge their vision of what
is possible . . . to stretch, put something on their list which hadn't been
there before. Most probably know that my encouraging others is a way for me
to encourage myself. Hey, it works for me and will work for you. A perfect
example of an expanding sandbox (for which I will take no credit) is Ken
Norton's workshop to Isle Royale NP last September. It was a fabulous trip
that
had its geneses in Ken's vision. That vision thing is pretty special and it
is nice to play in that kind of sandbox. When he does another . . . I'll
probably be there. Hope to see some of you there also . . . if your sandbox
is
that big.
I've had another bit of results recently from some of the play in my ever
expanding sandbox. Last week was kind of special in that the Krappy Kamera
Exhibit opened in New York and one of my Isle Royale images is one of the 58
selected for inclusion. I also received notification last week that two
images
I had sent to Islands Magazine for their annual photo competition had been
chosen for Honorable Mention awards. One or both might be included in their
July magazine and if not, will at least be included the winners exhibit on
their website. All this from playing in an expanding sandbox . . .
