Hi all,
I have taken delivery of my "new" XP computer and am getting to know the
beast. For various reasons I had to clean it inside and out. All done. Some
software too; Nortons seemed to be complicating matters too much, so it is
now disabled.
The CPU and cooling fins are MASSIVE (compared with what I am used to),
and the fan there is no midget either. They were liberally coated with a
greasy smelly dust, which had penetrated well between the heat-sink fins.
All clean and nice now.
I timed it; takes three and a half minutes to boot up. I may purchase
Windows Lite from Australia; this removes MSIE from entanglement with the
operating system (and the computer, period) and speeds things up no end,
apparently.
Tweaki sorted out some of the offensive eye-candy. Other software is being
installed.
Question; is 3- 1/2 minutes normal for boot-up time for a 2 GHZ XP machine?
Brian
