I think you are in the minority in being surprised.

I think you misunderstand Canyon's obscure nomenclature. The 1D
designation is for their big, heavy weight and duty Pro series bodies.
The first one, the 1D, used a 1.3x sensor and was their only Pro body at
first. Later, they added a little "s", using 1Ds for the new body with
full frame sensor.
Since then, the 1D series are all about speed, for sports and suchlike
uses, at the expense of a smaller, lower mp sensor. The Mark III can
blaze away at 10 frames per second for 110 JPEG or 30 RAW images and has
a new AF system supposed to be even faster than the II.
The 1Ds series are about mp and image quality, but slower. Only 4 fps
for 32 JPEG or 11 RAW. (And the 5D is a slug, at only 3 fps, which I've
never used.)
In spite of the similar name, they are completely different cameras, and
the 1D has the 1.3x sensor because that's what it has always had.

Seems unlikely to me that they would announce anything before Fall, and
certainly not before the 1Ds Mk III. Though slightly lower in mps, the
5D, according to some reviewers/users has superior overall image
quality. In ShootSmarter's skin tone shootout, the 5D was on top and the
1Ds II on the bottom. So they really can't make a 6D with more mps
before the 1Ds has a mp boost and image processing update.
What else can they add to the 5D? The new anti dust combo introduced
with the 400D, naturally, but that's not enough for a new model. Maybe a
5Dx? The 1D introduced Live view, but I assume that would go hand in
hand in the design process with whatever bigger sensor mp count comes next.
As a user, I can see how a 6D with 16 mp, live view the anti dust
treatment would be nice. But honestly, the 5D is a mighty fine camera
and I've had no dust problems with mine. A light blow-out once is all so
far. And adding 3.3 mp only increases linear resolution by about 12%,
hardly noticeable. 12.8 really clean mps is really a lot and iso 3200
is actually perfectly usable. The 300D felt limiting, the 5D doesn't.
