If you look in the lower left corner of this photo:

you will see a branch completely encased in the lichen. When an
entire tree or several are enveloped in the stuff, it's very eery at
first. I tried to get some good photographs of the lichen enveloping
trees on this massive scale, but I really just couldn't capture it.
After a few days, it no longer made quite this impression.
I'll try to come up with a couple photos that might be somewhat
successful at illustrating what I mean.
