Can anybody explain to me the need for lots of autofocus points? My 5D
has 9 but I almost never use anything but the center which is also more
sensitive. With the camera on a tripod I might use one of the other
points for focusing rather than repositioning the camera but the
probability of one of the 9 points being in the right place is pretty
nil. I think it would still be pretty nil even if it had 15 points or
20 points. The Mynolta A1, on the other hand, can focus anywhere on the
entire screen by moving the focus point around with the x/y controller.
That I use and enjoy but it would only be possible with a live view
screen.
But the camera also has automatic focus point selection which allows the
camera to choose any of the 9. Why would anyone do this? I don't know.
