Yep, that took me a while. It was very useful for about 3 years until the
digital cameras really tanked the sales of many items. I used to pull the
data into Excel every 3 weeks or so (which was the roll-off time then) and
spend an hour wading through the data to eliminate auctions that didn't
meet reserve, were mis-identified, broken lenses, or were obviously
inflated.
There have been two others who have done more comprehensive work that I
know of:
Garry Reese did the same thing as I did for a year or so, but graded each
of the items for quality. I thought that it was a lot of work, and he even
tried to charge for it; but nobody was hungry enough for the data to pay
for it...mine may have been good enough. I offered to blend the data and
host it for both of us, but he wasn't interested. The quality of the data
was much better than mine.
There was also a guy in Norway who did a site about 3 years ago with lots
of data. He had the process more automated, but the system only ran for 6
months? He disappeared soon thereafter.
That's all I know.

"Take a look at this if you do not know it:

ebay_history. htm
Over 6 years old.
Would there be any interest in a group project putting
together a newer version? It is a lot of work for
anyone, guess Skip had a lot of time. I was thinking
some of us could do one or two lenses and someone
could enter the data into Excel and someone post it
(maybe on Skip's site?). He did it for 15 months!
As an example he shows the 600mm lens for about $1300
(11 sales). One just sold for about $500 on ebay.
While the 90mm macro has gone up in value.
I would do 5 lenses.
But anyway I think it a good resource to see the value
of the different versions."
