Noise problems are not unique to Macs.
The new Dell (yuck) on my desk at work makes a very loud
whooshing/spinning sound every time it reads a CD. It bothers my
co-workers enough that I don't listen to music from CD. I've gone
'old-school' and use my cassette Walkman instead!
