I found that the sponge attracts dust and pet hair etc. which acts like
a brush to foul the heads. It's best to do a thorough cleaning ever once
in a while especially after a lot of cleaning cycles. In my printer the
overflow from the sponge is routed to a tray underneath which could
overflow and make a real mess. All-in-all a nasty business.
