The Alkaline batteries will work, but the silver have a steadier voltage (more
consistent exposure),
last longer and fail more suddenly, avoiding misexposures that alkalines might
cause when they
come near to expiring.
OM2, 3,4, silver batteries have the ID
MS76,S-76,EPX-76,357,KS76,MS-76,SR44SW,SR44P,G-
13,SP76,303,357,76RS-76,L1154,SR44,G13,V76PX, or D357H
Alkaline batteries may start with L or end with A.
Button batteries are usually available cheaply in bunches on ebay. Buy a bunch
fresh and store in
fridge or freezer with your film. See http://tinyurl.com/vcr86 but do not bid
if alkaline.
You can also buy a lithium replacement for two cells:
CR 1/3N, L 1/3 N, CR1, DL1/3N, 2167,CR111, CR1/3 1H
but the voltage is not as steady as the silver.
OTOH, they work better below freezing and last much longer.

I recall complaints much earlier that the lithiums have problems, failing
unexpectedly, but I haven't
experienced that problem.
