If we're swapping stories about friends of friends, then there's the friend
of my friend who was emigrating to Australia when the jumbo in which he was
flying lost all 4 engines after flying through the ash cloud from a volcano
somewhere. After minutes of freefall/glide the pilot finally managed to
restart one/more engines and land safely (somewhere). Can't recall more
details, but sounds like it must have been a spookily quiet few minutes!
