Hi
I actually went into the camera shop today and compared the 'looks' of an
actual Fuji S9500 Digital camera wth a Nikon D50 and Canon 400D (by looking
at them in their glass cases). The Fuji S9500 is just a tad smaller (maybe a
cm or so) than a D50 and would certainly 'look' the job on top of a tripod.
It's my friend's S3100/3500 that's sooo diminutive that it would be a joke
to try to use. The Fuji S9500 has a hotshoe for external flash too - and I
can afford it cash!
I rang the shop where I'm getting the Canon from (to see if I could go and
collect it) - they say it will take up to a week to arrive and that they
will ring me when it arrives???
If they mess me about I'll just go out and buy a Fuji S9500 from Curry's - I
felt like just buying one today and getting it all over with. As far as I
can see, the only 'fault' with the Fuji S9500 is that it has a fixed lens.
But the 28-300mm (compared with Canon's 28-80mm) plus 3 more megapixels does
make it a very tempting proposition. In addition, the Fuji S9500 can make
short movies at up to 30 FPS at VGA resolutions (NOT that I'm looking to
make any movies - but it could be useful to have a few secs of movie
sometimes, to accompany the shots of/at a wedding, say). I didn't actually
play with the camera because I might have said 'blow the Canon' and just
bought it. I suspect the camera shop I'm getting my Canon from (hopefully)
will have both cameras and I'll be able to have a play with, and good chat
about, both. The Fuji S9500 really is a handsome beast of a digicam and I'm
sure that only knowledgeable 'photographers' would know its a not a full
DSLR. It would quickly pay for itself (I hope) doing portraiture - although
the thought of maybe one day accidently scratching the lens or dropping the
thing worries me. I thik if Fuji gave it a bayonet mount with
interchangable lenses (and kept it at more or less its current price) they
really would have a entry level DSLR to challenge Nikon and Canon for entry
level digital photographers. I can't see Fuji rushing to do that and maybe
risking losing out their S-series pro DSLRs to it though.
