Hi,
Recent nice acquisition from yabe. Unfortunately there is 4- 6 mm of play
in the rear of the barrel just behind the tripod mount. Clearly something is
askew. I can't see anything to tighten w/o disassembly. It was described as
"gently used." It appears to have been sold by an agent whose business is
selling stuff on-line. They blame FedEx.
It looks like it has been in a closet for a number of years and I suspect
barely looked at prior to the sale given all the crud on the 81B filter that
was
in the holder.
On the plus side it came with most (?all) the do-dads with a filter set, 1.4
TC, Velcro lens barrel protector, screw on hand hold gizmo. I wonder how
much black particulate matter is in the lens given the stuff on the filter.
Repaired and clean, it should be super.
Called Tamron---$147 for "minor service" which includes fixing whatever is
loose and cleaning the glass. The senior tech appears to do these. There was
a delay with my Tam 80-200 last year, as he was at a training session in
Japan. Some may recall the 80-200 I had sent them redeveloped zoom creep
within
30 days. The cust service rep at Tam said the lens is "in spec," the tech
would tighten it against his better judgment and I would be charged the full
fee again. After all they said "it is not a macro lens." I had them send it
back as is.
Nonetheless, I would still consider using them if it is the best way to go.
Suspect the seller or the insurance will pick it up, though I have no
guarantee.
There appears to be fairly good experience with KEH for servicing on the
list and wanted to know what anyone thought.
Thanks,
Mike
