I've suggested that you buy a 350D but certainly not because you can use
Canon A1 lenses on it. Quite to the contrary. It is not possible to
put Canon FD mount lenses on an EOS mount camera and achieve inifinitiy
focus without using an adapter with an optical element. These things
are available but are of low quality and will compromise those nice FD
mount lenses. You'll be much better off with a 350D by mounting OM
lenses which can be adapted with a simple mechanical spacer that has no
optical element.
The alternative, of course, is an Oly digital which will also accept OM
mount lenses with a simple adapter. The disadvantage of the Oly is that
you become more dependent on OEM lenses for wide angle. The larger
sensor and wider availability of the Canon mount gives you more options.
Consider carefully where you're going. It may have more ramifications
than you realize.
