As I said in my original post and my reply to Jeff, I'm not trying to
make something perfect, or even photographically correct here. I'm
trying to show how lighting can be evened out with minimal post
processing time and effort. His house shots exist for one reason only,
to be attractive enough to get people to look further without
misrepresenting the property so that they will feel cheated whtn they
visit it in person. Once the house is sold, the images are trash. They
don't stay on the piano or in the family album like your portraits.

Nope, intentionally done to approximate early or late light from the
opposite direction making the patio look warm and inviting. From the
direction of the shadows, I imagine this is something like what the
patio would look like in more ideal light without having to go back. A
portrait of the patio would simply require a different time of day to
look right. I don't see how to do it right in post.

I agree to some extent. This was a challenge to myself to see how close
I could come to taking a disaster and making it acceptable. And I spent
too much time on it. The black fridge came up noisy so I did a separate
layer for it to tone down the reflections without bringing up the black.
For your and Jeff's purposes, I assume such badly lit interior shots
would not exist in the first place. I siply had no lighting but the
built in flash.
The light is odd partly because the room is odd. Directly to the right
of the camera are more windows and behind it the room continues into a
large dining area with multiple french doors to the camera's right and
behind it., so there is a lot of indirect sunlight coming from behind.
The room is huge and a strange mish-mash with odd nooks and crannies
mixed with large open spaces not used for anything. The kitchen part is
actually quite poorly designed for actual cooking. Trust me, I used it.
The house and grounds are really amazing, with many elegant touches and
some quite strange ones
The two story gazebo room is soon to be replaced with a sun room of
stained glass recently purchased off some fancy house in England and
shipped over. The gravel for the paths in the formal rose garden was
shipped over from a favorite beach in Cornwall. Start to get the picture?

Thanks, the shot is good because the library is pretty perfect. It's
from the old part of the house, as opposed to the remodeled part or the
big addition. Twere it mine, would change some furniture, but nothing
else about the room. I don't think anyone actually uses it. She has a
very large office in the addition and he has an office suite over the
meditation room and four car garage.
