A recent discussion here (specifically about whether there was any
visible halo on Rossi's rear wheel in the MotoGP shot) was around
CRT's vs. LCDs. I have used a LaCie Electron Blue IV for the last
three years or so, but I recently bought a Samsung 215TW originally
to serve as a second monitor for palettes in PS, etc. I bought it
from CompUSA for $499 literally sight unseen based on what I read on
the box for the display. I brought it home and connected via a DVI
cable to my PowerMac Dual G5 and was floored by the image quality. It
really is impressive, and once I profiled it up with the Monaco
Optix, now have a beautiful display for image editing. I find this
monitor is even more neutral than the LaCie, and much sharper. While
I bought it as a second monitor, it has now become my primary
monitor, and I now only use the LaCie for checking color and for
reading email, etc. The 21.5" 16:10 aspect ratio is a delight, and
gives me plenty of real estate for working in Photoshop or Lightroom.
Once my LaCie dies, I will likely buy another one of these to serve
as a second display. A photography web site I hang out (SF Bay Area
Photography-Mike Soo's forum http://www.soocool.com/forum/
viewtopic.php?t=3581&highlight=215tw) has had extensive discussion
about the fine qualities of this display. It turns out that,
unbeknownst to me at the time, another forum member had extensively
researched LCD displays, and settled on this monitor as his choice.
Based on his and my comments, a number of other forum members have
purchased this display, and all are very pleased with it. Listmembers
looking for a very reasonably priced display with excellent
performance should check out the 215TW, if you do, I'd be curious to
hear your thoughts.
Regards,
Stephen.
