Well, I took Moose's advice and snagged some sample pics from Steve's
Digicam reviews, one from the Canon 5D and one from the Nikon DC200. Both
apparently are at the camera's native resolution. Both JPEGs. I took them
into CS2 and resampled them to 20 inches wide using CS2's resampling engine.
(With the E-1 I generally use Genuine Fractals because I get marginally
better results, though it takes about a hundred times as long.)
The 16x20 images from both the 5D and the D200 just freaking blew me away! I
am most sad and sorry and downright depressed to report there is no
comparison between the 5D, the D200 and the E-1. None. Zip. Nada. Well,
there is a comparison, but it ain't good. Ain't good at all.
As I am starting actually to sell more true 16x20s, this could have a
significant impact on my abandonment of the E-1 system in terms of time
frame, meaning I might have to order something this afternoon. <g>
(Okay, no smartassed remarks such as "Of course the 10Mp or 12MP image is
gonna blow up better than the 5MP image. I _know_ that. But confronting the
evidence face to face is a mite different than knowing something
intellectually. It's only 9:10 a.m. here, but I think I'm gonna go
downstairs and mix me a gin and tonic and contemplate on this a while. Phew!
