I think as cameras get more complex and they don't render themselves
up right away, they are less immediately involving. Plus there is
just something about a really sweetly executed mechanical contraption
that is more engaging than any electronic or electronic/mechanical/
optical hybrid will ever be.
The short blackout has a practical effect beyond speed of shooting
and the satisfaction of not missing much seeing when shooting. It is
faster than the dreaded eye blink. I can't believe someone calculated
the timing necessary to do that.
