should protect the front element from getting banged up. Even collapsed for
wide angle, it still is a hood. And a certain amount of softness ain't all
bad. Just IMHO

There will be differing opinions, however I prefer the rigid ones or if
rubber at least the non-collapsing ones. The hood on my lens is there for

reasons. One is to block the sun or other light from hitting the front

of my lens. The other is to protect the front element from getting banged
