To paraphrase H.G. Wells, all hoods are equal, but some hoods are more equal
than others. Some of the less equal hoods are of the built-in variety. While
the slip-out hoods of the Zuikos 180/2.8, 300/4.5, 400/6.3 extend far enough to
be useful, the hood on the otherwise wonderful 100/2 is very close to being of
the teats on a boar hog sort. Slid to its full length, it extends a paltry 20mm
beyond a 50mm wide expanse of glass. I didn't dig out the protractor I know is
here somewhere to make even a semi-precise measurement, but just eyeballing it,
I'd say any light source past about 20 degrees from perpendicular to the lens
is hitting the glass. But it's there, won't come off without damaging the lens,
so I use it and hope for the best. If I'm feeling serious, I'll screw in a real
hood and/or help with my hat.
