I regularly use my E-1 in sub-zero temperatures, usually down to about
-35C. The camera itself and the lenses have no problem with the cold,
the LCD screen does get a bit sluggish though. The big problem is the
battery, Li-Ion batteries go flat rather quickly when the temperature
drops. I usually keep a few spare batteries with me in my coat and swap
them when the battery gets too cold. I've been meaning to build an
external battery pack for the E-1 which I can keep inside my coat but
I haven't gotten around to doing that yet. Maybe this winter.
