It's a really hard thing to judge. Even with measuring equipment, there
are issues of appearance, as you say.
And besides, as some guy named Winsor said a little bit ago:
"I don't think viewfinders are a big issue any more. There are plenty of
cameras with good ones and they are AF cameras after all."
