I would submit in Charlie's defense, that at least in another form of
motorized vehicle, you've got more around you to protect you and cushion
the impact.
My close friend that I told you all about a couple months ago (retired
fire dept. battalion chief) is in his third hospital now, albeit making
an astonishing recovery. Riding a Harley doing 25 MPH or less. He'd
been given up for all but dead about a week into his first
hospitalization.
Don't think it would have been quite so life threatening had he been in
any of his other vehicles (Ford F-350 super duty and a Lincoln Town
Car).
Just my two spoked wheel's worth.
