Oh :-( That's a real shame from my perspective. I hope you will at
least drop in to post come of your lovely images from time to time.
I partly use this list as a place to exercise the techie, logical side
of my mind. It's nice to do so with some of the other minds here. There
is another aspect of me that I don't much put forward here. It operates
from intuition and feeling, rather than data and reason. That part of me
always has its own sense of the "energy", for lack of a better word, of
the group that make up the active part of this list.
Each person is a part of the whole and helps define its breadth, depth
and character. So each addition or loss has an effect, causes a
"disturbance of the Force". A couple of examples:
AndrewF's absence leaves us with less gravitas. The cynic, curmudgeon
and pedant help give things form, keep them grounded and sway against
inflation. Although there are come signs of a return of bite, Walt's
retirement seems to have done him too much good. Both his bark and bite
have softened. Not a judgment for or against Walt, undoubtedly good for
his mental and physical health, just observation of shifts in the Force.
Khen's joining has been very interesting. As an unquestioning True
Believer with a semi-direct line to the Source, he has nailed down his
own corner. In the process, he has given other believers of various
strengths and sorts a new standard against which to notice their own
belief situation. One result has been much soul searching, beating of
breasts, and decisions about where one stands much firmer than before.
Notice how many terms more commonly found in religious discourse (and
disagreement, schism and war) than around here are popping up. Again,
not a judgment for or against Khen. I for one, rather like having him
here. But I do observe how it has roiled the waters, bringing things
seldom seen here in the time I've been here up from the depths.
Of course, definition of positions, as it almost always does, has led to
friction, so emotional attachments have been activated, rants produced
and some intemperate things said. The level of civility has actually
surprised me, and I hope it can be maintained and soon improved upon.
Groups have broken asunder under less pressure than I suspect may run
under these issues.
Nonetheless, folks of a sensitive, emotionally open and/or intuitive
nature will tent to be disturbed by the goings on. And they will feel
like leaving the source of the painful feelings. I'd hate to see that
happen, as the loss of that energy, even more than the loss of the
curmudgeons, would seriously affect the whole in ways that could cause
it to lose its special qualities.
So I appeal to all listees to remember and support what has brought us
together more than the details that separate us and keep a supportable
balance between them. Discussion and demonstration of our differences
helps us all learn and grow. Letting them separate us, diminishes us all.
And Richard, you are one of those who hold up the side of gentle
wholeness. I feel better with you on the list. I'd hate to lose you.
