When a fellow drives way out in the boonies in a gear-laden 4WD SUV, it is best
to have a dependable battery. The second Energizer 12V battery in less than two
years, it being the replacement for the first one, is crapping out again in the
OM-4Runner.
The absolute best automotive battery, of course, which I should've bought two
years ago instead of trying to save a buck at Pep Boys, is the Optima. Sunday,
I ordered an Optima 34 on line from 1st Optima Batteries in Nebraska for
$139.95, with free Fed-Ex ground shipping. It was sitting by my front door just
before noon today when I returned from running some errands and doing a bit of
ride-around and looking cool in the most excellent weather we're having today.
While I was out, I stopped at the neighborhood Pep Boys to pick up a couple of
small doohickeys, and while there, I decided to see what they were getting for
an Optima 34: $169.95! Add the 6% sales tax, which I don't pay on an
out-of-state purchase, and it looks like I've saved myself over $40.00, not
even counting the convenience of having it brought right to my door.
Now, if the Fed-Ex guy would only have stayed around to install it.
