NO.
There rarely has been a justification for the asking price of a Leica, in my
opinion.
Leica knows there are a lot of photographers and picture takers out there that
have no problem paying a LOT of money for a name product.
In fact, many of those buyers are smart enough to know they're buying a
Minolta or whatever brand is making camera bodies today for Leica branding,
but they'll pay it anyhow!
Amazing to me.
They could buy the same camera for 1/3 the price if the label alone said
Minolta.
That the Leica in question is a fine camera, there's little question.
As good or better than most of it's competitors.
But three times as good? I think not.
On the other hand, are you going to pull your friends aside and sotto voce ,
say, "Hey Tom, just *look* at this new Minolta I just got! Isn't she a beaut?"
Uh huh... Not even a pipe in his pocket!
Now, slap a Leica red-orange dot on the camera, and watch the light of
jealousy show up in his eyes!
I mean, *that's* why you bought this camera, isn't it?
You knew it was made by Panasonic or Minolta of whoever took them over this
month. That there IS no Leica building cameras anymore.
They subcontract everything out these days...
But...it has the Leica dot.
Leica as the old timers know it, knew it, is gone.
Worth that kind of obscene price?
Not in my most humble opinion it isn't!
