Maybe, maybe not. The last Konica minilab (they had a highly underrated
product) printed at 400, and the generation before at 300, and the results
looked better than a lot of those 240 printers, although Durst does a good
job at that resolution.
My main point is that if you shoot for reproduction, you do indeed need 300,
as that is the standard for press work.
