If comparing 2 OMs on auto, you should have a test roll of film loaded.
Even a gray piece of paper will do. Doing the comparison without a
reflective material creates results that really don't mean anything.
Light is read off the black pressure plate. Point at bright wall, set
lens so meter reads 1 second, then fire shutter. As shutter opens say
the word "wollensak". That takes about a second.
Without a shutter tester, you're not really able to check meaningful
shutter speeds or auto exposures.
It is possible your friends OM-2 is jammed on auto. That is, even
though you're setting the top switch to auto, the switch on the main
circuit (under the floor of the mirror box, near the silicon blue cells)
is staying on auto. The switch directly under the top cover changes the
meter display from auto to manual.
