yep, we call them bracken ferns here, and you can eat the young shoots just as
they come up, about 1 inch high.. very tasty, higher in iron and other
essential minerals. Fiddleheads we call em like that..if they get too big they
are very bitter and woody,

Definitely not what we call a Sword fern here on the west coast. It looks
more like a Bracken fern to me, or perhaps a Shield fern.
