Like anything else you get diminishing returns for a lot more money.
The 17-55 is a terrific, fast, professional lens with nice out of
focus characteristics.
There is no review yet that I know of the 18-135. It has just been
announced. The 18-70 kit lens is very good, as sharp as the 17-55 at
some stops, just not as fast and has a bit of vignetting. The 18-55
kit is not so good and is missing the manual focus option. I recently
bought an 18-200VR as an air travel lens and I love it. It is much
better than it has a right to be considering the zoom ratio and the
price. Terrific little lens. None of them have the tank like
construction of the 17-55 though.
