Among my centers of interest, along with OM photography, I've always been
interested in computer science and especially into data processing, data
mining and IA. One of the big quest in those fields is image processing, in
order to make good classifications and help archival and retrieval of
relevant pictures. Not a task for the faint of heart, as it's already
complicated with text only sources. Images are a full order magnitude more
difficult to deal with.
Reading some news sources, I saw that google has come with an idea they're
currently testing at http://images.google.com/imagelabeler/ ; basically,
they're harvesting raw human perception power with a computer ;-) [and for SF
fans reading this, mandatory quotation : google begins to learn at a
geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern Time, August 29th,
2029].
I thought it might be of interest for some list members ; while not olympus
related, image making and what revolves around it is a fascinating field of
experiments for scientists since Niepce laid out some chemicals on a metal
plate.
