I see, so the problem might be smaller and perhaps unnoticeable with
longer lens (and obviously the aperture), the 50/1.4 then must be one of
the prime candidates to bring it out.

Very interesting, never even thought of checking the focus off the center.
Good idea and I'll check that too when there's more light. It's nighttime
now, I took a quick peek through the viewfinder but it's difficult to
tell right now if it's like that.
