Chuck,
I just added a 67mm sized circ pol to my bag for my DZ14-54 ($109 plus tax).
Because I need to use it tomorrow I purchased locally which may not have got
me the best price but did let me try a couple of options. The store offered
me a selection from Heliopan, B+W and Hoya. Most of my filters in my
collection for OM lenses are Hoya so I was inclined to theirs as I not had
any problems. Comparing the build quality between the three brands the Hoyas
have the lightest weight construction (not flimsy just not as solid in the
hand as the other two). The Heliopan and B+W mounts are solid, think Le*ca
solid, and will outlast the glass delaminating by a long way (unless you get
the Kaesemann sealed ones in which case they will outlast most of us
probably). Both Heliopan and B+W use Schott glass but with formulations
apparently from Zeiss and Schneider respectively. The difference in the
formulations is that the Heliopan tends to very slightly warm and B+W to
very slightly cool. If you are shooting digital this probably doesn't make
much of a difference as you can correct it out in post. Personally I opted
for the Heliopan as warmer will better suit my uses. Be careful though that
there are warming polarizer's out there that combine an 81 type with a
polarizer action (sometimes referred to as Moose's filter after the other
Moose out there :) . These are of course different from the slight tints I
describe above.
So the bottom line is if you can check them out in person its worth it even
if you end up buying mail order. If you can't then I doubt you will be
disappointed by any of the higher end filters.

Subject: [OM] Polarizer recommendation
I face the monetarily daunting project of buying a 77mm circular polarizer.
I guess I could go spend (B&H prices) $200 for a B+W (why are they all
marked as "warm") or as little as $76.50 for the bottom end Hoya (or almost
as much as the B+W for the top end Hoyas)
I remember Gary Reese's admonitions on lousy filter quality and that it was
almost independent of price. But I've always been curious about whether his
tests with a vertical autocollimator actually translated into visible
differences on the image. It always struck me odd that the majority of the
filters he tested were deemed unusable.
Any comments or recommendations?
