I have a query for all you OM experts. On Friday I was taking a few informal
portraits after a friend's wedding using an OM-4 Ti with a F280 on a PBG2
connected via the F0.6 cord. The camera was set to auto and the flash was in
super FP mode. In some situations the predicted shutter speed was less than
1/60 (despite the ISO 400 film - it was rather cloudy). The flash and camera,
however, both fired and the flash confirmation signalled that the exposure was
OK. The LED marked "Normal" on the flash was also illuminated after the shot.
Not having used the F280 for a while, and not having the manual with me to
consult, I forgot that in such situations one should either switch the flash to
Normal mode with the camera in auto or switch the camera to manual mode and the
flash to super FP mode.
According to the F280 manual, when the camera is in auto, the flash in super FP
and the shutter speed is slower than 1/60, the shutter will not release! My
experience contradicts this. Can someone offer an explanation and tell me what
I should expect when I get the negatives back? My feeling is that the flash
fired in normal mode but as far as I know only the OM-707 has the ability to
tell the flash in which mode it should fire , depending on the shutter speed
required for the shot. Do I have a special OM and/or F280???
Thanks in advance,
Duncan.
