Yup, I think FAT32 is the culprit as well. A fair amount of overhead
designed for better performance with random access on small records.
Just adds overhead for images which need large, sequential blocks for
the most part. The 4GB cards would perform better with FAT16 and 64KB
clusters ala Win NT.
