Consider, just for fun and for whatever it might tend to illustrate:
21/2 lens aperture diameter wide open = 10.5mm, or an opening of about 33
square mm
180/2 lens aperture diameter wide open = 90mm, or an opening of about 282
square mm
282 divided by 33 = 8.5
180 divided by 21 = 8.5
Anybody want to figure out if the image of a given object from a given distance
formed by a 180mm lens just might be 8.5X the size of the same image formed by
a 21mm lens?
Am I the only one this makes sense to?
It's all symmetrical. There ain't no voodoo involved.
