Thanks for that explanation Martyn,

I thought it would change the focal length. I'm brand new to DSLR and SLR, so
every little bit of explanation helps. I filed this answer for later review.

Unfortunately I didnt get underground, my duties kept me on the airstrip
stacking barrells, but I did manage to get a couple funky shots there too.

middle)

These are untouched, unedited

I'm still trying to figure out the software on fotopic to get the site to do
what I would like..

Tim,

As I understand it (cue for correction...) the extension tube doesn't change
the focal length. However, increasing the distance between the lens & the
film plane (either with an extension tube or bellows) increases image
magnification at the film plane. In the case of the 50mm f3.5 (an OM system
macro) the usual maximum magnification is 0.5, adding a 25mm tube increases
this to 1 (ie. life size). Not sure of the exact figures when mounted on a
4/3 digital camera but the principle remains the same.

There is an extension tube available for the e-series cameras but I've not
used it - probably better off getting the correct macro lens rather than
trying to use the tube with the 14-45.

..... But, sounds like you've got plenty of interesting stuff to "shoot"
without worrying about macro - be good to see some of it...

Regards - Martyn

I'm a bit confused about the extension tube thing, I sorta understand the
extension tube changes the focal length, so how does that allow you to take
close up images like this with a 50MM..

I'm using a stock E500 lens that came with the kit, I think it is a 14-45MM
but I cannot seem to get a closeup like this on some of the wildflowers
here.

I was taking pictures around here all morning, we are closing this mine for
2 years, and I might not be back, so I am taking lots of images of the
landscapes.. later today I will be underground to take images of the ice
they were blasting out of the existing tunnel, apparantly it is some pretty
spectacular thing, bands and ribbons of ice with huge holes in it from the
brine water..

Cheers.. Tim

But, a ladybird flies in & lands on the desk so I might as well grab a few
pics - http://archaeoimages.com/ladybird/
Taken with the e-1 & a zuiko 50mm f3,5 with a 25mm extension tube (apart
from the first one) - lens stopped open & ISO set to 800.
The last pic is of a second individual - appears to be covered in fungus -
any entomologists among us who can provide a diagnosis?
Anyway, just wanted to show somebody (& there's nobody home but me).
