I think that was the only Nikkor zoom at the time, certainly the only
mid range one. And, as Bob suggests, a pretty poor lens in its original
version. My dad bought one, which is still around here somewhere if
anybody needs one. :-) Fortunately, he also had a 50/1.4.
I had less money, so I had the 50/2, an excellent lens. I tried his
43-86, quickly gave it back and decided to stay with the 50 mm until
zooms got better. Oly's first mid range zoom, the 35-70/3.6 came later,
of course, but it is a great lens, better than my first Zuiko 50/1.8.
I think there were at least a couple of design updates to the 43-86,
don't know if they ever got it right.
