Why did I just give the most obvious answer to one of simplest question of all
time?
Because I've been dragging a heavy fiberglass stepladder around in the
basement, splicing coax, rerouting it, tacking it up, making sure both TVs
still work on all channels, with "On Demand" and HD, hooking up the broadband
modem and installing the software, fueling the entire process with an MGD, or
several. Done! Didn't fall of the ladder a single time, cut myself with
anything or hit my thumb with the hammer.
This stuff is so fast it blows my hair back and tickles my ears. Our solution
to the persistent and annoying unreliable router problem: my wife has DSL; I've
now got broadband. We don't need our computers networked because we each have
our own plethora of peripherals. For the once or twice a year we need to move
something from one computer to the other, we have floppies, Zip drives, a USB
powered 20MB HD, CDs, DVDs, and, of course, high-speed internet. Plus, we each
have access to the other's. I'm not totally paranoid, but I prefer a bit of
real security, particularly now that the Bill of Rights has become meaningless
and we have a ... Never mind.
AT&T has been bouncing some of my e-mail, so if anybody who's been bounced
feels really strongly about contacting me off list, try
SSRhighwayman@xxxxxxxxxxx. (I couldn't get "hiwayman" or "highwayman," so I
stuck "SSR" in front.) I'll probably check this address a couple of times a
week, so don't look for a quick reply.
Time for lunch and maybe a nap, then some high-speed super surfing.
