I sent a test email from one of my hotmail email accounts to an almost never
used hotmail account to make sure it hadn't been shut down. The next day a
spammer has an email with the subject
"Re: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" In the inbox of the never used
account.
It seems unlikely that I have a virus or trojan horse on the computer I used
to send the email, but the coincidence between sending the first email and
receiving the possibly only non-Microsoft spam in the account is unsettling.
The computer is running a corporate version of McAffe antivirus. There is
also a employer installed security agent that is supposed to block suspect
activity.
It looks like Spybot S&D got removed at some point. After reinstalling it
and performing a scan, the system has a clean report other than a few
tracking cookies. Other than Spybot are there any strongly recommended free
software or other ways to scan my PC?
TIA,
-jeff
